He arrived in the village as a young lad and took shelter in the Khandoba Temple, where he was given the name of Sai Baba by the villagers. Baba lived the simple life of a fakir, but he blessed millions with his divine powers. He healed the sick and performed great miracles, which made people realize that there was something divine about this simple looking saint. Sai Baba later lived in a mosque called Dwarka Mai and when he dies, his remains were put to rest in a temple, and this is where the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple was built in 1922. The temple welcomes Hindus, Muslims and people of all religions with open arms because Sai was in favor of religious equality. The temple also houses the famous neem tree under which Sai Baba sat and preached his teachings to his followers. Today, Shirdi Sai Baba Temple is one of the most visited and also the richest temples in the country. Thousands of devotees from all around the globe visit the temple every day.
