The distinctive thing about the idol is that its trunk is placed on the right. The main idol is flanked by the idols of Goddesses Riddhi and Siddhi, who represent success, wealth, sanctity and prosperity. The legend goes that two divine idols were buried right in front of the presiding deity in the temple by Ramakrishna Jambhekar Maharaj, who was a disciple of the Hindu guru Swami Samarth. The Guru had made a prediction that a mandar tree would grow at the place where the idols were buried 21 years later and the prophecy turned out to be true, with a tree manifesting at the spot, along with a svayambhu Ganesha in its brances. This led to a phenomenal increase in the devotion and popularity of Sri Siddhivinayak Temple. Today, with millions of devotees flocking the temple every year, it has become one of the richest temples in India.
